100 young people from all over the world (Nigeria, Mali, Palestine, Mianmar, the USA, Cuba, Brazil, Sweden etc.) are in attendance for the weeklong festival. The Xhosa word “Vukuzenzele ” means “a new awakening for a new generation” and signifies the deliberations. Action orientated projects are also included as an important part of the programme.

While weather did not permit the attendees to climb Table Mountain itself on Youth Day, they did visit St George’s Cathedral and the District Six Museum, where they were addressed by amongst other Bp Peter Storey. He was handing over the symbolic baton of leadership and responsibility to a new generation with their own struggles.

The Festival continues until Sunday.
